A message from the pilgrimage director:
Dear Fellow-pilgrims,
With the exception of Mass with the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, our Pilgrimage to Lourdes, remains the greatest gathering for the family of our Diocese throughout each year. On behalf of Bishop David McGough and our Pilgrimage Committee we are delighted to welcome you to our Pilgrimage for 2011 which will be led once more by our Archbishop Bernard Longley.
Like all diocesan pilgrimages, we have to deal with the harsh restraints of a difficult economy; and we express out heartfelt thanks to the commitment of so many in our parishes for their enthusiasm and support across all areas of our pilgrimage which creates a true spirit of prayer and togetherness, especially for our Sick Pilgrims who remain at the heart of all our efforts.
In a positive step to reduce our costs, we are pleased to be working in partnership with Tangney Tours our Official Tour Operator for this year.
The Pastoral Theme for all pilgrims this year is: ‘With Bernadette, praying the Our Father.’ When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray he told them to begin by speaking to God in heaven as ‘Father’ (Luke 11:2). Where God’s children are assembled, there God the Father fills them with his blessings. In Lourdes, those blessings are visible for all to see.
Bishop Perrier invites us to pray this prayer with Bernadette in Lourdes. As it was for Bernadette may it also be for us, an occasion of grace, knowing that we are truly loved and that we can love in return.
