Our Rome & Assisi April Brochure Trip. The spiritual leader for this pilgrimage will be Fr Brian Kenwrick from the Parish of St Mary Immaculate, Falmouth.

 

Rome, the capital city of Italy, is located on the river Tiber and has more than 2,500 years of history. Today Rome is a modern, cosmopolitan city and the third most visited tourist destination in Europe.

The Vatican City is located in the centre of Rome and is the seat of the Roman Catholic Church. The Vatican City is a sovereign territory and the home of the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, who founded the Franciscan religious order in 1208. St. Clare (Chiara d’Offreducci) a follower of St Francis and the founder of the Poor Clares was also born there. The Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi (St. Francis) is a world heritage site and a truly magnificent building.

An outline itinerary of our Pilgrimage

St Peter Basilica

Depart from London Heathrow to Rome airport and then transfer to the City for 4 days.

Staying close to the Vatican, there will a visit to St Peters Basilica and other historic and religious sites around the City.

Optional walking tour will also be included and tickets for the Papal audience on the Wednesday morning (subject to the Pope’s schedule).

Although this is a fully guided tour you will have the opportunity to explore the local area at your leisure if you wish.

From Rome we will transfer to Assisi, with a stop en route for Mass in Orvieto. You will have a guided tour of Assisi with visits to St Francis and St Clare Basilicas.

There will also be an afternoon visit to Eremo dei Carceri, an ancient Franciscan site on Mount Subasio.

We will transfer by coach to Santa Maria Degli Angeli to visit the Basilica, built on a grandiose scale, the Basilica is the seventh largest Christian Church.

We will then go on to visit San Damiano Church and Monastery – built in the 12th century it was the first Monastery of the Order of Saint Clare, where she built her community.
